Republicans Say They Oppose Debt Ceiling Increase After They Vote For It

Posted on September 14 2011 by Congress Watcher

among those voting for this resolution against the debt ceiling increase are a huge number of Republican U.S. Representatives who, only a little over a month ago voted in favor of the debt ceiling increase. They flip flopped on the issue, stating that they were for the increase of the debt ceiling before they were against it.

Pro-Business? No Republicans support bill supporting Manufacturing in the USA

Posted on August 12 2011 by Congressional Aid

The Republican Party frequently is supposed to be a pro-business party, but what’s most notable about recently introduced pro-business legislation is the total lack of Republican support for it. H.R. 1912 (introduced by David Cicilline in the House) and its counterpart S. 1457 (introduced by Kirsten Gillibrand in the Senate), would shuffle money not to [...]

Obama Aligned With Republicans On Budget Deal

Posted on April 15 2011 by Congress Watcher

This week, Barack Obama will sign a 2011 budget that pleases the majority of congressional Republicans, and angers the majority of congressional Democrats. Expect the same to happen with the 2012 budget that will come up for a vote in half a year from now.

Caucus Leadership in the 112th Congress Trends Democratic and Liberal

Posted on April 1 2011 by Congressional Aid

Congressional Member Organizations in the House of Representatives, commonly called “caucuses,” are a way members of Congress can work together on legislation that doesn’t fit into traditional committees or their chairs’ agendas. When caucuses are registered by the Committee on House Administration, one or more Representatives is identified as a co-chair. There are currently 597 [...]

The 11 Democrats who voted to Poison Americans’ Drinking Water (and the 9 Republicans who didn’t)

Posted on March 6 2011 by Congressional Aid

Last year, the Department of the Interior published regulations to keep the carcinogenic and otherwise poisonous rubble created by mountaintop removal mining out of the streams that sustain wildlife and (if you want to be anthropocentric) feed into the drinking water supplies for millions of Americans. Last month, Rep. Bill Johnson of Ohio introduced H.Amdt [...]
