Hinchey Returning Substance to Substantially All American

Posted on July 11 2011 by Congressional Aid

So far this month, 43 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have submitted remarks to the Congressional Record in which they speak on the importance of restoring and protecting American jobs. A bill introduced to the U.S. Congress this month gives them an opportunity to take action in alignment with their words. Rep. Maurice [...]

Democrats In Congress Advance Preschool For All Children

Posted on February 10 2011 by Congress Watcher

Sensible new legislation would not create any big government system of nationally uniform preschool education. Rather, it would simply establish support for state governments in their efforts to provide year-round school that’s universally available, but not mandatory, for three, four and five year-olds.

Just How Relentlessly Progressive is the Congressional Progressive Caucus of 2010?

Posted on January 16 2010 by Congressional Aid

In March of 2009, we reviewed the congressional activity of the-members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. The Congressional Progressive Caucus is a coalition of liberals in the House of Representatives, one that has been characterized by the right wing as relentless in their pursuit of Red Army extremism. We found that, despite conservatives’ characterization of [...]

The Most Liberal Members of Congress: Rankings for 2009

Posted on December 30 2009 by Congressional Aid

Whenever a Democratic member of Congress is running for election, the most common line of attack by Republicans is to label that Representative or Senator as a “hardcore liberal,” or “one of the most liberal members of Congress.” In 2004, Senator John Kerry was unsurprisingly labeled as the “most liberal Senator” by the RNC, and [...]

Bill Thwarting Too Big To Fail Is Faltering

Posted on November 24 2009 by Congress Watcher

The Too Big To Fail, Too Big to Exist Act has no cosponsors in either house. As much as many members of the House and Senate complain about being victims of corporations that are “too big to fail”, they aren’t willing to take the action to rescue the American economy from being dominated by these huge yet weak institutions.

Who Cosponsors More in the House and Senate? Why? (There’s No Party Here)

Posted on February 19 2009 by Congressional Aid

A few days ago, I wrote a post describing the frequency distribution of bill cosponsorship in the Senate and House of Representatives for the 111th Congress so far. More particularly, I considered how many bills had gained how many cosponsors, then listed the five most cosponsored bills in each house of Congress. Today, let’s consider [...]

Who Are the Most Liberal Members of Congress of Early 2009?

Posted on February 8 2009 by Congress Watcher

Senator Boxer has a perfect score of 100. Next to her, the most liberal group in the Senate is a group of 7 senators who have each earned a score of just 67. Clearly, the Senate is not a very liberal place.

Why Won’t Democrats Support Repeal of Military Commissions Act?

Posted on February 4 2009 by Congress Watcher

Many Democrats currently in Congress capitulated to George W. Bush back in 2006 and voted in favor of the Military Commissions Act. It seems that many of these Democrats are too ashamed of their own moral weakness to work to undo their past mistakes.

Thank The Defenders of the Constitution

Posted on June 28 2008 by Congress Watcher

The FISA Amendments Act completely unravels the fourth amendment to the Constitution. It makes protection from unreasonable search and seizure a mere privilege for those that please the government, not an inalienable right.

Status of the Equal Rights Amendment

Posted on May 28 2008 by Congress Watcher

You are probably not aware of it, but the Equal Rights Amendment did not die back in the 1980s. It has been brought back to the House of Representatives and to the Senate. Both the Senate and House versions of the proposed constitutional amendment state that: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be [...]
