In tweeted conversations about S. 1867, who listened to whom?

Posted on December 4 2011 by Congressional Aid

Last week, the U.S. Senate passed S. 1867, a military authorization bill with a special provision granting the U.S. military the power to put people into detention without charges and without any time limit. All classes of people are subject to detention without charge: Americans citizens and noncitizens, people living inside the borders of the [...]

John Cornyn Seeks A Tax Reduction For The 1 Percent Only

Posted on October 20 2011 by Congress Watcher

S. 1738 provides a 3.8 tax cut, but only for households with an income of over $250,000 per year. It’s a special tax deal for the 1 percent most wealthy Americans. It provides no benefit whatsoever to the 99 percent.

John Cornyn Celebrates Anti-Religion, Anti-Military Document

Posted on March 3 2010 by Congress Watcher

Why did John Cornyn celebrate a document that calls the military an eternal enemy of civil liberty? Why did Cornyn praise the document, which refers to priests as “ever ready minions of power”? Is Cornyn some kind of Communist?

Senators Seek To Continue Government Spying On You Without Justification

Posted on November 2 2009 by Congress Watcher

Those of us who still believe that the promises of the Constitution should be kept cannot win the debate in increments, begging for scraps of portions of our rights. Republican politicians interpret these maneuvers as signs of weakness. S. 1692 is an unsuccessful appeasement that needs to be defeated so that the worst parts of the Patriot Act can expire, as they were originally intended to do.

Pro-Insurance Democrats Kill Public Option

Posted on September 29 2009 by Congress Watcher

Democrats may have the majority of seats in the Senate, but the Republicans still appear to have the control. The Democratic-Republican distinction appears not to have anything near the meaning as the progressive-regressive split, and the progressives are clearly in the minority.

Republicans Introduce Bill to end Anonymity on the Internet

Posted on February 21 2009 by Congressional Aid

This last week, Lamar Smith in the House and John Cornyn in the Senate introduced identical bills (H.R. 1076 and S. 436) to criminalize anonymous use of the Internet. If passed, the legislation (entitled the Internet Safety Act of 2009) would require every person in America to register every single time they use the internet [...]

Senators Who Betrayed The Constitution

Posted on July 16 2008 by Congress Watcher

The following are the United States Senators who voted for this betrayal of the Constitution. 20 of these 69 senators are Democrats. Without the Democrats helping out, the Republicans couldn’t have gotten the FISA Amendments Act passed. Which ones are the Republicans, and which ones are the Democrats? You figure it out. I can’t tell the difference.
