Only 26 Stand For Separation Of Church And State In Congress

Posted on January 25 2012 by Congress Watcher

It isn’t just historically inaccurate to create a public display claiming that World War II was a religious crusade. It’s also unconstitutional. The First Amendment to the Constitution states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.” H.R. 2070 is in violation of this part of the Bill of Rights.

Will Congress Deny The Gandhi-King Scholarly Exchange Initiative Again?

Posted on September 25 2011 by Congress Watcher

This isn’t the first time that the idea of the Gandhi-King exchange has been proposed in Congress. Similar legislation was introduced in 2009 – when Democrats controlled both houses of Congress, but the bill was not accepted and promoted by Democratic Party leadership.

Democrats In Congress Advance Preschool For All Children

Posted on February 10 2011 by Congress Watcher

Sensible new legislation would not create any big government system of nationally uniform preschool education. Rather, it would simply establish support for state governments in their efforts to provide year-round school that’s universally available, but not mandatory, for three, four and five year-olds.

How Does Donald Payne Measure Up?

Posted on November 3 2009 by Congress Watcher

Donald Payne is not the most progressive member of the House of Representatives, but he’s no right wing Blue Dog either. With a progressive action score of 56 out of a possible 100, there are a lot of progressive pieces of legislation that Payne hasn’t supported yet. However, in a more generally progressive Congress, he could become a reliable part of a team to move America forward.

Supporting A Constitutional Education

Posted on September 18 2009 by Congress Watcher

H.R. 3591, the Constitution and Citizenship Day Act, creates four million dollars for competitive grants to educational programs that teach about the federal constitution and state constitutions.

For Peace Against Waste, Just 23 Democrats

Posted on August 2 2009 by Congress Watcher

230 Democrats in the House of Representatives voted in favor of a bill stuffed with pork barrel, expanding the military, and providing for the continuation of wars that will soon have lasted an entire decade.

Will Commission On Glorification of Violence Examine the Military?

Posted on June 18 2009 by Congress Watcher

Will this commission examine the role that the military plays in the glorification of violence in American culture? Will it examine religious influence in the justification of individual and institutional violence. If not, why not?

Thank The Defenders of the Constitution

Posted on June 28 2008 by Congress Watcher

The FISA Amendments Act completely unravels the fourth amendment to the Constitution. It makes protection from unreasonable search and seizure a mere privilege for those that please the government, not an inalienable right.
