It isn’t just historically inaccurate to create a public display claiming that World War II was a religious crusade. It’s also unconstitutional. The First Amendment to the Constitution states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.” H.R. 2070 is in violation of this part of the Bill of Rights.

The legislation, would, if passed, begin the process of the ratification of a constitutional amendment to require all federal political campaigns to be funded solely from public sources. Even candidates’ own money could not be used for campaigns. Independent expenditures, under this proposed constitutional amendment, would be prohibited.

Congressional candidate Gary Swing supports the legal prohibition of war. He seeks the abolition of weapons of mass destruction – including the massive arsenal of nuclear weapons held by the United States. He advocates the removal of American soldiers from all foreign nations, and their reassignment to purely defensive positions within U.S. borders.

Yesterday, the mysterious hacker group Anonymous began releasing videos listing the members of the U.S. House who had voted to approve the unconstitutional imprisonment provisions of the National Defense Authorization Act, calling for accountability. Among the targets was Congressman Robert Andrews of New Jersey.

When he ran for President in 2008, Barack Obama promised to restore our constitutional rights and the rule of law. He has not done so. In fact, by signing the National Defense Authorization Act of 2011 into law today, Obama has expanded George W. Bush’s attacks on the Constitution.

Under the proposed amendment to the Constitution, Congress would have the power to create a system for public funding of electoral campaigns, and no funding of campaigns outside that system could take place, and Election Day would become a holiday whenever federal elections take place.
