Jackie Speier Springs into Action on the LGBT Legislative Agenda

Posted on August 9 2009 by Congressional Aid

As part of our ongoing series of legislative reports, we at That’s My Congress regularly update our LGBT Equality Caucus scorecard to reflect the performance of members of the LGBT Equality Caucus in supporting bills in the caucus’ own slate. H.R. 2517, a Bill to End Discrimination against Same-Sex Partners of Federal Workers

Posted on June 2 2009 by Congressional Aid

Discrimination happens when people are treated differently according to their social status. At the federal level for some time now, same-sex couples have been discriminated against. Most broadly, this discrimination against same-sex couples has occurred in the context of marriage. Since the passage of the Defense of Marriage Act in the 1990s, successive Congresses have [...]

Tom Coburn And the Conservation of Whining

Posted on January 12 2009 by Congress Watcher

Senator Coburn has been a consistent opponent of conservation. He ought to be willing to engage the legislation on those terms, not with procedural posturing that he would abandon quickly if he and his allies had more power in the Senate.

Polar Positive Members of the House of Representatives

Posted on February 4 2008 by Congress Watcher

George W. Bush is trying to delay the decision of a designation of polar bears under the Endangered Species Act until after the February 6 auction of drilling rights in public waters of the Chukchi Sea to big oil corporations. The Chukchi Sea is to the north of Alaska. It’s where polar bears in the United States hunt seals, and its protection as polar bear habitat would require action on global warming, as well as prevention of oil drilling by George W. Bush’s family friends in the petroleum industry.

Posted on January 28 2008 by Congress Watcher

Imagine the corporations and the government following every move that you make as you go around the Internet, whether you use passwords to protect your privacy or not. Imagine this taking place without any search warrant, without any judicial review, and without any meaningful congressional oversight. That’s what’s going on, and the Senate is on the verge of making it legal by passing the FISA Amendments Act

Tonight at 6:00 PM, New York Democrats will meet to protest again Charles Schumer’s collaboration with the Bush Republicans on the nomination of Michael Mukasey as Attorney General of the United States. The protest, organized by New York Progressive Democrats of America and Brooklyn For Peace, in coalition with local activist groups from around the region, will meet outside Senator Schumer’s house, and demonstrate there, at 9 Prospect Park West in Brooklyn, NY.

September 1, Impeachment Day: The Role of the Congress, The Rule of Law
