Constitutional Amendment To Undo Citizens United Proposed

It has been three years now since the Supreme Court decision in the case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission – commonly referred to simply as “Citizens United”. The Supreme Court narrowly decided to effectively eliminate most restrictions on campaign finance in federal elections, allowing corporations, wealthy individuals, and other groups to spend unlimited amounts of money to influence campaigns for Congress and the White House, in a manner that makes it almost impossible to know where the money really came from.

Yesterday, a group of 33 members of the U.S. House of Representatives introduced, H.J. Res. 34, a resolution to create a new amendment to the Constitution of the United States. The new amendment would undo the Citizens United ruling by explicitly granting Congress the right to regulate campaign finance.
