Constitutional Amendment On Voting And Campaign Finance Proposed
On the last full day of work for the U.S. House of Representatives this year, John Yarmuth and Walter Jones introduced H.J. Res. 97, proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America.
If the proposed constitutional amendment were enacted, there would be three major impacts:
1. Campaign spending and donations would no longer be regarded as a form of protected free speech.
2. Congress would have the power to create a system for public funding of electoral campaigns, and no funding of campaigns outside that system could take place.
3. Election Day would become a holiday whenever federal elections take place.
