Jerry Moran Takes His Business Outside Kansas
On his official U.S. Senate page, Kansas Republican Senator Jerry Moran says that he’s a loyal resident of Kansas who was “taught from an early age the value of a hard day’s work, looking after one’s neighbors, and serving his community.”
“These same values guide him today as he serves the people of Kansas in the United States Senate,” Moran’s site says. If that’s true, however, how come Senator Moran is taking his business outside Kansas?
Colorado Springs is, as its name implies, in Colorado. The city is about 100 miles outside the Kansas border, with a local economy quite separate from that of Kansas.
Yet, it’s Colorado Springs, and not Kansas, that Jerry Moran has chosen as the site for his two-day elite campaign fundraising event next week. The event, for which Senator Moran has instructed representatives of corporate political action committees to pay him three thousand dollars, will take place at The Broadmoor, a “5 star Colorado Springs resort is located on 3,000 lush acres” with a spa, golf and tennis, hot tubs and valet parking.
If that seems far removed from the lifestyle of most families in Kansas, maybe that’s because Senator Moran’s fundraiser is far removed from Kansas itself. Moran could have chosen a location in Kansas to hold this event, and brought much needed money to Kansas businesses. Instead, Moran seems to have decided that there’s no place good enough in Kansas for him and his lobbyist friends.
Why should the Kansas voters return this ingratitude with a re-election?
