Christie Vilsack: The Not Steve King Candidate for Congress?
This morning we have received a message from an incipient Christie Vilsack for Congress campaign, asking us for money and support. A visit to the Christie Vilsack for Iowa website reveals little to nothing in the way of detail, save for a pretty photo of a silo and puffy white clouds. The question is whether Christie Vilsack really needs more.
Vilsack’s opponent in the 2012 Iowa 4th Congressional race will be Steve King, a congressman who has made his mark with a consistent right-wing voting record in the 112th Congress, including:
- An effort to relax lead poisoning standards
- Support for Patriot Act surveillance of innocent people without a warrant
- Moves to outlaw contraception
- Cuts for early childhood education combined with Brazilian cotton subsidies
- Votes to keep the expensive V22 Osprey aircraft even though it doesn’t meet its own standards
- Opposition to free speech in America
- Taking away citizenship from American babies
- Insisting that Barack Obama’s middle name matters
…and the list goes on. In the past, Steve King has been able to maintain his strikingly conservative record in Congress and win re-election in a small district that largely agreed with him. But in the newly redrawn 4th Congressional district, new moderate and liberal voters will be asked to vote for King — and will have a hard time being convinced to do so.
With a larger more moderate district and a controversial reputation for incumbent King, could the Vilsack name brand (married to Agriculture Secretary Tom) and the distinction of NOT being Steve King suffice for victory in November 2012?

” The question is whether Christie Vilsack really needs more. ”
God, I sure hope not. As a resident of the newly redistricted 4th district, lets hope this guy finally gets shown the door.
Steve’s time is up, he needs to go back to moving dirt in Odebolt. Our district and nation as a whole is better off without him in power.
