Gohmert and Allies Support Call For Massive Censorship of Art

Representative Louie Gohmert and 26 other members of the U.S. House of Representatives are pushing forward a resolution, H. Res. 211, which supports a call for the censorship of almost all kinds of artwork. If this agenda were applied, the United States of America would become like Fundamentalist Muslim societies in which only abstract geometrical art is allowed to be created, and all other art is destroyed.

H. Res. 211, if passed, would give congressional endorsement to the designation of the first weekend in May as a national celebration of an ancient Judaic equivalent of Islam’s sharia. That old religious law includes the command to refrain from creating artwork that represents any real thing:

“You shall not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”

anti art religious lawYes, that ancient religious law is the Ten Commandments, a loosely-defined group of harsh Judaic laws that are not now applied even in Israel. Supporters of H. Res 211 claim that the ban on artwork has “been part of the Nation’s basic cultural fabric”, and “celebrates” the idea that art should be banned, but consider the consequences if this ancient law were applied: Painting and sculpture would go, but so would most children’s books, television, movies, billboards, and even family photograph albums.

Is that really a part of the basic cultural fabric of the United States of America? Louie Gohmert thinks so. So do the following U.S. Representatives, who have cosponsored the anti-art resolution:

Rob Bishop (Republican-UT, District 1)
