Winograd In Again To Replace Jane Harman
The announcement came to the floor of the House of Representatives at 6:31 PM, Eastern Time:
“The House received a communication from Representative Harman wherein she resigns as a member of the House of Representatives effective at 6:30 p.m. on February 28, 2011. “
Now the competition in a special election to succeed ex-Representative Jane Harman can begin. Among the contenders: Marcy Winograd.
Winograd’s opponents are machine Democrats, already having commissioned opinion polls and begun robocalls to voters in California’s 36th congressional district. Winograd, on the other hand, is campaigning as a genuine liberal Democrat, having in her previous campaign for the seat taken the following stands on the issues:
- for an end to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq
- for single-payer health care
- defending constitutionally guaranteed freedoms
- for renewable energy
A taste of Winograd’s approach comes from this 2012 congressional campaign ad:
The date for the special election is not yet set, but already we know that Marcy Winograd will make this a race to watch.

Go, Marcy, go!
