Congressional Caucuses in the 112th Congress: New, Unrenewed and Continuing CMOs as of 2/15/11
In the first month and a half of the 112th Congress, 187 Congressional Member Organizations — more familiarly known as “caucuses” — have registered with the Committee on House Administration in keeping with the rules of the House of Representatives. Caucuses bring together members of Congress who are focused on a subject, be it broad (the House Manufacturing Caucus), narrow (the Congressional Fragile X Caucus) or even unrelated to lawmaking (the GOP Doctors Caucus).
Some (28 caucuses) but not all (159 caucuses) of these CMOs are new, and some caucuses that were registered in the 111th Congress have not yet been registered for the 112th Congress. The origination, reauthorization, or lapse of a congressional caucus is an indication of the political priorities of the House; given their limited time, the matters that members of Congress choose to purse are the most salient and pressing, at least in their perception.
What’s blazing hot in the House? What issues have sustained appeal, and what former passions have been put on the back burner? These lists of new, continuing and unrenewed caucuses (current as of February 15, 2011) are a good place to look for answers:

Your list of the not renewed caucuses from the 111th that carried over to the 112th is incorrect.
Our Friends of Switzerland Caucus, co chaired by congresswoman Tammy Baldwin and Congressman Wally Herger, has indeed been renewed by the House Administration Committee for the 1112th Congress. I would appreciate your making the corresponding correction.
