Accountability Time from the Tea Party for Scott Brown on Shield Act?
The Tea Party movement buoyed Republican Scott Brown into his Senate office last year, ostensibly on the basis that Scott Brown would be a firm supporter of the Constitution and Freedom. The Greater Boston Tea Party says of itself, “We are a group of freedom loving, constitution supporting Americans.” Shortly after the Massachusetts victory of Scott Brown, Tea Party member Wayne Seling wrote of Brown’s election:
“I personally would like to thank each and every American in Massachusetts that voted for Scott Brown and against this oppressive progressive machine. You have most definitely saved the day. It will be up to the rest of us to follow your example and save tomorrow. Once again the good people of Massachusetts have stepped up courageously in the face of tyranny and displayed your defiance.”
For the Constitution. For Freedom. Against Tyranny. This was the basis upon which the Tea Party movement in Massachusetts supported Scott Brown.
As Senator, Scott Brown is a cosponsor of the SHIELD Act, S. 4004, a bill which if passed into law would throw journalists in prison for 10 years if they publish any news story revealing anything about the nature, workings or activities of any domestic or foreign intelligence service.
That’s Tyranny. It’s a violation of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees a Free Press and Freedom of Speech.
If the words “Constitution,” “Freedom” and “Tyranny” are to have meaning, and if the Tea Party meant what it said, then surely it will stand in strong opposition to the Shield Act S. 4004 and to politicians like Scott Brown who support it.
As of today, there is not one word written in any blog post, in any forum, or on any web page at Tea Party Nation regarding either the Shield Act or Scott Brown’s support for it.
