Independent Expenditures Report, October 24-30 2010
During the week of October 24-30 2010, Federal Election Commission records show that 166 political corporations spent $79.5 million in independent expenditures on congressional campaigns across the United States, either to support or to oppose congressional candidates as they campaigned for office. A breakdown by party shows that:
=> $26.8 million was spent to oppose Democratic congressional candidates;
=> $5.0 million was spent to support Democratic congressional candidates;
=> $41.9 million was spent to oppose Republican congressional candidates;
=> $6.3 million was spent to support Republican congressional candidates.
With $46.9 million being spent to aid the Democratic electoral cause and $35.1 million being spent to aid the Republican electoral cause, this marks the second week during in the 2010 election season in which pro-Democratic independent spending has been greater than pro-Republican spending.

1. $2.8 million spent by the National Republican Senatorial Committee on October 26 for a TV spot attacking Democratic Senate candidate Barbara Boxer.
2. $2.1 million spent by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee on October 26 for a TV advertisement attacking the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania, Pat Toomey.
3. $1.3 million spent by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee on October 26 for a TV advertisement attacking Republican Senate candidate in Illinois Mark Kirk.
4. $1.2 million spent by the National Republican Senatorial Committee on October 26 to purchase a TV advertisement attacking Democratic Senator Alexi Giannoulias of Illinois.
5. $1.1 million spent by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee
on October 26 for a television advertisement attacking the Republican candidate for the House in Virginia District 11, Keith Fimian.
