Restore America’s Voice Ineffective Online Ad Campaign For John Boozman
For the most part this year, the story of independent expenditures in this year’s congressional elections has been a story of vast amounts of money being spent, and immense new avenues for corporations and other powerful organizations to wield decisive influence over the fortunes of campaigns. Sometimes, however, the story is different. Sometimes, the story that comes out from records of independent expenditures is a story of impotence, a story of failure.
That’s the story of the Restore America’s Voice political action committee. Yesterday, Restore America’s Voice reported the expenses it incurred in buying pay-per-click advertisements on Yahoo for the campaign of John Boozman, currently the member of the House of Representatives for the 3rd district in Arkansas, but running this year to become a United States Senator. The expenses ranged from October 14 through October 25, and they turned out to be very… very… small.
The following is a chart of just how small these particular independent expenditures turned out to be. The greatest daily expenditure was $5.92, on October 14, the first day of the ad campaign. After that, the daily ad cost of clicks on the PAC’s ads became much lower. Every day that Restore America’s Voice ran its Yahoo ad, only a handful of people bothered to click on it. On two days during the campaign, no one bothered to click on the advertisement at all.
These numbers from the independent expenditure report of Restore America’s Voice reveals two important facts:
1. Very few people cared enough about John Boozman’s Senate campaign even to click on a heavily promoted link.
2. The Restore America’s Voice PAC is not very effective in promoting its favored political candidates.
