Betsy Markey Powered By Electric Lobbyists Yesterday
This year, U.S. Representative Betsy Markey specifically requested millions of dollars of government spending to benefit the electric power industry, including money to fund a “Energy Conversion Laboratory” and a “Smart Grid Simulation Laboratory”. Why on earth would Markey specifically ask for this money, when the residents of her congressional district have so many other needs?
Perhaps part of the answer was provided at a breakfast party held yesterday. The breakfast party was held for the benefit of Betsy Markey, and took place at the Washington D.C. offices of the Edison Electric Institute.
The Edison Electric Institute is an association that represents electric power companies.
Acting as official hosts at the party were Brian Wolff and Tom Kuhn. They’re both paid lobbyists working exclusively for the Edison Electric Institute.
Electric companies got government money with the help of Betsy Markey. Then, Betsy Markey got money from people representing electric companies.
That’s what I call a smart power grid.
