West Virginia Senate Candidate Rails Against Non-Existent Cap and Trade Legislation
West Virginia U.S. Senate candidate Attorney Harry Bruner casts himself as a firm defender of his state’s fossil fuels industry against the “attack” of cap and trade climate legislation. He writes,
“Senators appear ignorant about the WV coal, oil and gas industry, its history and importance to the WV economy, and other energy issues. I will protect all WV industry from nutty politicians. I will protect our WV coal industry from the Obama, Reid and Pelosi agenda to tax and regulate it out of existence. The extractive industries are under severe attack by pandering politicians hawking their nutty ‘cap and trade’ plans.”
Bruner’s passionate defense of fossil fuels from the “severe attack” of cap and trade legislation ignores one important fact: There is no active plan to pass cap and trade legislation in the U.S. Senate. Democrats abandoned a severely compromised cap and trade bill earlier this year.
The primary for the West Virginia special election to replace deceased U.S. Senator Robert Byrd is being held today.
