Theocracy For Marijuana In Vermont
Up in Vermont, Cris Ericson is campaigning for U.S. Senate on a platform centered around marijuana legalization. That’s not surprising in itself, given that Ericson is a Marijuana Party candidate. What is surprising about the Ericson for Senate campaign is the degree to which Ericson wants Americans to subordinate their other political interests for the sake of legalizing marijuana.
For example, Ericson is willing to sacrifice the First Amendment’s separation of church and state for the sake of making it easy to smoke marijuana. Although Congress is forbidden by the First Amendment from making any laws to establish religion, Ericson demands that the Senate make its legislation, including marijuana legalization, comply to Biblical demands. He writes,
“It is time to re-legalize marijuana and hemp as God intended.
OLD TESTAMENT BIBLE, GENESIS 1-29 ‘And God said Behold! I have
given you every seed bearing plant’.”The Old Testament advocates stoning rather than getting stoned. Is Cris Ericson ready to support execution by stoning, because it’s what “God intended”, or is he simply willing to follow any line of reasoning at all, so long as it points toward his goal of legalizing marijuana?
