Bipartisan Coalition Attempts To Force US Military Out Of Pakistan

Posted on July 28 2010 by Congress Watcher

The observation by Dennis Kucinich about a massive pile of leaked documents revealing support of the Afghan Taliban by the government of Pakistan:

“It is important to debate our presence in Afghanistan and Pakistan now as the website Wikileaks yesterday released more than 90,000 classified reports on the war in Afghanistan. These reports not only provide further evidence that our presence in Afghanistan is counterproductive, but they also support long held suspicions that Pakistan’s Inter-Service Intelligence Agency is providing support for the Taliban insurgents, even as the U.S. provides Pakistan with more than $1 billion in aid a year and is expanding its footprint on the ground within Pakistan’s borders.”

Kucinich’s action in response to this observation: H. Con. Res. 301. The legislation would have required a complete American military pullout from Pakistan – even special forces – by the end of this year. Kucinich introduced the measure in coordination with Ron Paul. Yesterday evening, it came up for a vote, and was defeated.

The following bipartisan group of U.S. Representatives voted in favor of the bill:

Tammy Baldwin
John Campbell
Yvette Clarke
William Lacy Clay
