Jo Bonner Parties While The Gulf Burns
Excluding his initial 9-day delay, in which he was silent on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, U.S. Representative Jo Bonner, who comes from Alabama’s coastal 1st district, has had plenty to say about the offshore drilling disaster. The speeches and press releases have been flying from Bonner’s office. In terms of practical legislative activity, however, Bonner hasn’t been doing very much.
Jo Bonner has not introduced any legislation regarding the oil spill. He has cosponsored only one oil spill bill, written by a congressman from up in Missouri. Bonner has been unable to move that bill forward.
Tonight, however, Congressman Bonner will finally take strong action related to the Gulf. He’ll be holding a party, at a corporate lobbying headquarters, in Washington D.C.
How is that related to the Gulf of Mexico? It’s a Gulf Seafood party. Bonner is having seafood shipped up to Washington D.C. so that he can have a party with it.
Of course, more than one third of the entire Gulf of Mexico is now closed to fishing for seafood. That’s affected many fishermen on Alabama’s Gulf Coast. Will they be traveling up to Washington D.C. to speak with Representative Bonner? It’s unlikely.
Bonner’s party couldn’t take place down in Mobile, Alabama, close to his constituents, though. That’s because the purpose of the party isn’t really to eat seafood from the Gulf of Mexico. The purpose of the party is to bring money to Jo Bonner.
The invitation sent out by Jo Bonner asks political action committees to send people to the party with $1,000 checks written to him. Do you think the fishermen from Jo Bonner’s district could afford that entrance fee right now?
Dear Congressman Bonner, I have no idea if this is true or not but I would like to know if it is. If this is true you should be ashamed of yourself. If it isn’t true then set things straight. I will back you if this isn’t true but if it is, just clean up your act. NO ONE SHOULD CHARGE $1000.00 a plate for anything. You can get elected by just doing a good job. It ticks me off with people who don’t give a thought to people like me who only draws $748.00 a month and try living on that. I look forward to a reply to this. HONEST reply!!!
