Blue Dog Boyd Won’t Talk About Oil Spill
Congressman Allen Boyd represents a congressional district in the Florida panhandle, directly in the path of the expanding oil spill there. One would presume that Boyd would confront the issue of offshore drilling, given that it threatens the economic and environmental integrity of his district. However, as of yet, Boyd has said nothing about the spill at all. It’s as if he’s pretending the problem doesn’t exist.
The official web site of Panama City, a major tourist destination in Boyd’s district, features the photograph you see here. A beautiful beach appeals to the tourist as an oil tanker cruises along not far from shore.
We don’t have to imagine what it would look like if the contents of that tanker were let loose, to drift to those sweet Florida beaches. Is that a new face of Florida tourism that Allen Boyd is willing wait for?
