Laura Richardson Challenged On Ethics

Posted on March 9 2010 by Congress Watcher

In California’s 37th congressional district, incumbent Laura Richardson is being challenged from within her own party by James Mathews. Mathews proposes a generally progressive legislative agenda, but Richardson’s record in the House of Representatives is moderately progressive as well. So, what differentiates these candidates?

Ethics seems to be a major focus of the Mathews for Congress campaign. Mathews states that he’s challenging Richardson because, “For far too long, our Congress has been blocked by wealthy corporate lobbyists. We’ve got to stop this corruption. Because of this corruption, we have 50 million Americans without health care.”

There have been some questions about Richardson’s problems in managing her properties in California, including a house in Sacramento that went into foreclosure, but was put back into Richardson’s hands after what some allege was improper preferential treatment for Richardson, given her position in Congress. Additional focus on Richardson’s ethics may have come as a result of her frequent use of fundraising events last year to explicitly invite lobbyists and PACs representing specific industries to give money to Richardson’s campaign in return for time with Richardson and her staff. In just one month, Richardson held four fundraising luncheons to give special access to military contractors, financial services firms, railroad companies and other transportation industry interests. Richardson holds a seat on the House Transportation Committee.

Boeing has been one of Richardson’s top donors for the current election cycle. Richardson has been supportive of Boeing’s interests, voting in favor of funding for C-17 planes made by Boeing even though the Pentagon says that it does not need or want the planes.

If Richardson is corrupt, however, she isn’t doing a very good job of it. The most recent campaign finance reports for Richardson’s re-election campaign show that her campaign has $80,000 cash on hand, and $410,000 in debts.

The woman is an embarrassment to our district. Unfortunately Matthews, although well-intentioned, is not congressional material either. I am hoping someone with some serious substance joins the race, regardless of the party. If not, There are a couple of pretty smart neighbors on our area who are considering challenging her. We have had enough of this woman!!!

“In California’s 37th congressional district, incumbent Laura Richardson is being challenged from within her own party by James Mathews.”

Correction: His name is Peter Matthews. He is a repeat, also-ran candidate. He is a political Science professor at Cerritos College in Cerritos, California. He is affable, but unqualified for national office.

I agree with Maggie, Laura Batts-Richardson is an embarrassment. Her ex-husband was Chief of police in Long Beach. He left town. She is an example of the Peter Principle. She was a mediocre city councilman here in Long Beach, then promoted to the CA state level, now to the national level. Her only qualification for higher office was the D after her name. That’s D for democRAT.
She votes reflexively for democrat issues.
She went to Cuba with a delegation from the Progressive Caucus to pose with Fidel Castro!
She bought five houses riding the speculative wave of future higher prices. The bubble popped. She defaulted. The banks lost money. She got one back after it was sold to someone else (if I recall correctly). Read the rest in articles published elsewhere. Maybe she is the perfect one to represent a bankrupt California in Washington D.C. for a bankrupt nation.

A new comer, Star Parker, is running against Laura Batts-Richardson in the 37th Congressional District. Star Parker is a young, attractive Black woman, a conservative, and Republican. She seems to be a contender, reading from her background and experience.
Matched up one on one, there is no competition. Star Parker is the one to vote for.
Unfortunately the District has a majority of Democrat Party registrations. The democrats are drones and vote D without thought of the candidate’s qualifications, experience, or character.

Another newcomer, a Mr. Polanko, a lawyer, also filed to run in the Democrat primary. So there is hope she will be eliminated in the primary election, but that is not likely.

Star Parker? Really? You guys will guys will apparently grant absolution to anyone who spouts the mantra. I just watched the video of her announcing her candidacy. She’s a former Dem now born-again Republican who’s had 4 (I think) abortions and (after finally seeing the light) kept her 5th child (out of wedlock I presume) to become a single mother on welfare. This is ripe for a spot on SNL’s Update featurette “Really??”.

And to Gary ….You are right …Star did turn her life around ( isnt that what Christian Messager is all about …Gods Forgiveness . Star, ever since has made it a “passion ” to help others do the same . She has written two very honest open hard hitting books detailing the lifestyle she came from .And the struggles she went thru personally . But she gives others in the same struggle HOPE …REAL HOPE !!!!!

The difference is Laura is still in that corrupt gutter ( buying houses she couldnt qualify for , getting them back due to corrupt connections – just like Shumer , Franks & Dodd) and now she is at trail for voter fraud ….has demanded a change o0f judges three times – and gotten it .

THE ACCUSATION …..VOTERS IN COMPTON DID NOT HAVE ALL THE NAMES ON THEIR BALLOTS

Star lifted herself out ‘HER GUTTER’ by the grace of God thru prayer and changing her life choices .YES >>>AS A SINGLE MOM !!!!! . She has worked tirelessly since to bring others out also . She started and ran a successful news magazine ….that was destroyed in the LA riots. She founded CURE …to help welfare moms succesfully leave welfare …..PLEASE CHECK YOUR FACTS …..

What do we want in the 37th …more corruption ….or an honest dedicated voice for the people in Wash D C ….

“When you wish upon a STAR–your dreams for California may come True-!” I’ve vetted her articles for
over 5 years–she tells the real Truth like it IS-! She’s real & genuine Conservative–& fearless to all Democrats-! She has testified before Congress-! She’s the complete “Opposite” as Richardson is NOT-!” She is smart, & knows how to run “A Budget”-! She has “Common-Sense”, where it’s been lacking in Congress-! I endorsed her, but do not live in California-! I gave her donations instead-! We need someone to start “Saving California”, and Star Parker is a running Start-! Vote for her, & you’ll never be sorry-!
