Sen. Bennett Declines Home-State Invitations, Heads to Party With Gambling Lobbyists
Utah Senator Bob Bennett has been busy declining some invitations and accepting others. Bennett failed to attend a candidate forum in his home state of Utah on February 13, 2010. On January 15 of this year, Bob Bennett declined an invitation from Tea Party activists to attend an Independence Caucus in Provo. Bennett said he couldn’t spare the time.
Bennett does have time next week, on the other hand, to attend a fundraising breakfast thrown in his honor by gambling industry lobbyists Navigators Global LLC. Attendees at the event, held in the offices of Navigators Global, will pay $500-$2000 per plate for the privilege of bending Bob Bennett’s ear. Also next week, Bennett will have time to attend a fundraising lunch in his honor hosted by lobbyists Hunter Bates and Sheryl Bonilla at the swanky Capitol Hill UPS Townhouse, owned and operated as a lobbying location by global shipping giant UPS. For this event, it costs a thousand dollars a plate.
When Bob Bennett can get thousands and thousands of dollars just for sitting down to a meal and listening to lobbyists’ ideas for America, why on Earth would he want to go to Utah and spend time with people who won’t write him $1,000 and $2,000 checks? All a regular American can give him is a vote, and dollars can buy votes readily enough.
