Gene Taylor, a Reclining Representative for a Declining State
A check of the Statistical Abstract of the United States reveals the unenviable state of the state of Mississippi. Mississippi has the worst infant mortality rate in the country and ranks 48th out of 50 in the number of doctors per 100,000 people. Of the 50 states, Mississippi has the third highest rate of fatalities per mile driven and the fourth-lowest percentage of people with a college education. Mississippi has the highest poverty rate in the nation and the lowest median household income.
In short, the state of Mississippi and the people of Mississippi have a lot of ground to cover in order to catch up with the living standards of the rest of the United States. There are a lot of issues for a politician representing Mississippi to tackle.
While Mississippi’s need for solutions is high, Gene Taylor‘s supply of solutions is low. The Blue Dog Representative for Mississippi District 4 has only introduced two bills in the 111th Congress of 2009 and 2010: H.R. 1264, to add wind insurance coverage to flood insurance plans, and H.R. 1284, to name a post office after someone.
Gene Taylor doesn’t seem to feel the need to make any other changes in the state of his state. Do you agree?
