Allen Boyd Acts to Restrict Marriage While His Own Falls Apart
In 2008, Florida congressman Allen Boyd told the Christian Family Coalition that he would vote for a constitutional amendment to ban marriage equality under the law, cutting off marriage and its benefits to all same-sex couples, even for states that had made it legal. Indeed, in 2004 and in 2006 he voted for just such a constitutional amendment. In the 111th Congress, Allen Boyd has failed to support any legislation that would stop discrimination against gay and lesbian life partners in immigration, employment benefits, hiring, and interstate recognition of marriage.
In short, Allen Boyd stands in the way of of those same-sex couples who want to get married. Allen Boyd uses his congressional seat to stand in the way of these Americans’ equality under law. Allen Boyd would use the law to restrict others’ marriages.
While Allen Boyd has acted to keep other people from getting married, he cannot maintain his own marriage. He’s getting a divorce.
