Congressional Primary Victors This Week

Posted on February 3 2010 by Congress Watcher

The victors in yesterday’s congressional primary elections across Illinois and in Florida’s special primary election in the 19th congressional district are listed below. Note that not all districts are listed in Illinois because not all districts had primary contests.

U.S. Senate

Alexi Giannoulias won the Democratic nomination for Senate in Illinois. Mark Kirk won the Republican nomination.

House Races

1st district: Incumbent Bobby Rush easily won over his Democratic challengers.

2nd district: Anthony Williams, on a platform of opposing equal rights for homosexuals, won the Green Party nomination by nearly 20 points over rival Michael Mayden.

3rd district: Dan Lipinski easily beat Jorge Mujica.

5th district: David Ratowitz won the Republican nomination. Matt Reichel won the Green Party nomination.

7th district: Incumbent Danny Davis won the Democratic primary.

8th district: Joe Walsh won the Republican primary to compete against Democratic incumbent Melissa Bean.

9th district: Simon Ribeiro won the Green Party primary.

10th district: Dan Seals won the Democratic nomination for the 3rd election cycle in a row – without a general election win yet. Bob Dold won the Republican nomination.

11th district: Adam Kinzinger won the Republican nomination.

12th district: Teri Davis Newman won the Republican nomination.

14th district: Randy Hultgren will be the Republican nominee.

18th district: D.K. Hirner will be the Democratic challenger to Aaron Schock

19th district: Republican incumbent John Shimkus won easily over challenger Mike Firsching.

In Florida, Ted Deutch won easily over Ben Graber for the Democratic nomination. The Republican nomination to the seat is still up in the air, however. Ed Lynch has just a 42-vote lead over Joe Budd, and the results could be contested.
