The Christmas Prophecy of Ed Martin

Posted on December 27 2009 by Congress Watcher

In his 2010 re-election campaign, U.S. Representative Russ Carnahan will face down a Republican challenger, Ed Martin. If Martin’s campaign rhetoric is to be taken seriously, Carnahan may end up facing much more.

ed martin prophecyA few days ago, Martin posted a campaign blog article in which he compared himself to the baby Jesus, or perhaps a shepherd in the field saying,

“God’s love was fulfilled in the birth of His Son, who had come to make them and all who would come, spotless in the eyes of the Father. “Fear not” because they would carry the burden of the world’s pain, it would be the miraculous baby boy whom they would soon find lying in a manger. I confess to a sense of fear, or perhaps dread, that we are about to set upon ourselves another course of needless difficulty. I am compelled to do what little I may to forestall or lessen it.”

Will the voters in Missouri’s 3rd congressional district fall on their knees, and hear the angel voices? Will they listen to Ed Martin’s new prophecy of the second coming of Jesus?

I read the blog post upon which you are commenting. I think you both missed the point and unfairly conflated two sentences.

Sorry, but I feel like your post is completely unfair to Atty. Martin. He shared some of his own thoughts, having to do with the Bible, on his Christmas post. This country was founded on people who were pursuing religious freedom. The First Amendment guarantees Atty Martin’s freedom of speech and the press. What is your real issue with Ed Martin? I’m guessing your real issue has to do with God Himself, and not Ed Martin at all.

Ed Martin is not comparing himself to the Babe in the manger as you purport. This genuine individual – family man, lawyer, friend, brother – is exactly what this country needs at this time in history.

Yes I agree with Ed, thank GOD he is on the scene. All it takes for the evil that has taken over to prevail is for good men to do nothing. I tell you what if they unleash Texas on those scoundrels, all Q#$ would break loose and they would find themselves swimming the atlantic. Bring it on Ed. Let’s see what a MoTiger is all about !!

I do not believe Ed Martin has compared himself to Jesus. If anything, Martin has contrasted himself with Jesus. If you re-read the last two sentences, Martin goes from the 3rd person to the first. I believe all Martin has done is paraphrased the very inspiring story that, let’s be honest, makes the season. What Martin is saying is that he draws inspiration from the lessons of that fabled manger where Jesus was born.

However to the author’s point that incumbent Russ Carnahan will “be facing much more” than just Ed Martin in the election, that much is quite accurate. Because Russ Carnahan represents privilege, peril, and politics as usual; Ed Martin represents industry and merit, ideas and discipline. I hope and believe that Missouri’s 3rd congressional district will recognize, in time, that in Ed Martin they see much more of themselves, and a far prouder future, than they will ever find in Russ Carnahan.
