Gillibrand Ducks Afghanistan, Tasini Takes It On
Search the senate campaign site set up by Kirsten Gillibrand all you like, but you won’t find a single policy statement describing for New York voters where Gillibrand stands on the expansion of the war in Afghanistan. The fighting in Afghanistan is perhaps the most important foreign policy matter our nation faces, as the war continues to drain our government’s coffers in the middle of hard economic times, but Gillibrand chooses to duck the issue, pretending it just doesn’t exist.
Other sources indicate that Gillibrand supports sending more money and American soldiers to Afghanistan. Gillibrand has a policy position on Afghanistan. She just doesn’t want to let voters know what that position is.
Gillibrand’s opponent in the Democratic primary election, Jonathan Tasini, is not willing to stay silent on Afghanistan while our money and people are being thrown away. Tasini pledges that he will:
“Vote against any appropriations for Afghanistan other than funds allocated for the rapid, safe withdrawal of our military forces and aid that replaces military might with social wisdom, and spends money on human needs like food, medicine, and the building of infrastructure that responds to the crying needs of the Afghan people.
Support an exit strategy from Afghanistan based on talks that include all parties, diplomacy, unconditional humanitarian aid, and the end of military offensive operations by U.S. troops.
Demand an immediate cessation of the aerial bombardments of Afghan towns and villages.”
For months, Kirsten Gillibrand has occupied her appointed seat in the Senate, yet has failed to deal openly with the public on one of the most important issues of the day. On this issue, Tasini is showing much more readiness to represent New York in the Senate than Gillibrand may ever exhibit.

I support nonviolence to all beings. Your position is good.
Now that Kirsten has openly called for troop withdrawal so she can alter the past…
I’ve been calling for troop withdrawal all along…way before she did also….
