Three New Cosponsors Add Momentum for DOMA Repeal
At the end of October through the beginning of November, three new cosponsors have added their support for H.R. 3567, the bill to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and restore equal protection under law for married couples of the same-sex. This measure is supported by the vast majority of the LGBT Equality Caucus but has been blocked from being added to the caucus’ slate of legislation by Rep. Barney Frank, who has declared equality under law for gay and lesbian Americans to be “not anything that’s achievable” and therefore not worthy of his effort.
Representatives Brian Baird, Chris Van Hollen and Gerald Connolly (a.k.a. Gerry Connolly) frankly disagree with Frank. Their support brings the cosponsorship count for H.R. 3567 to 104 members of Congress.
No such bill, in case you’re wondering, has been introduced to the Senate.
