Senate Resolution Praises Bigots For Their “Respect”
Recently, the Senate passed a resolution establishing a holiday to celebrate an organization that engages in discrimination against non-religious Americans and homosexuals. S. Res. 112 declared February 8, 2010 to be Boy Scouts of America Day, recognized by the federal government.
Those who are familiar with the Boy Scouts of America know that the organization does not allow atheists or gays to become members. It’s rather galling, therefore, to people who care about religious liberty and acceptance of people regardless of sexuality, that the United States Senate should choose to continue to support the discriminatory agenda of the Boy Scouts organization.
What makes this resolution particularly offensive is that it declares that the Boy Scouts of America “have a keen respect for the basic rights of all people”. How can anyone claim that the Boy Scouts of America has a keen respect for the basic rights of all people, when the organization, bragging about its public charter from the federal government of the United States of America, discriminates against atheists and gays?
The answer is sadly clear – as far as the authors of this resolution are concerned, atheists and gays aren’t included in the category of “all people”.
The Senate passed this resolution unanimously – without a single voice of dissent.
That’s an attitude that I do not want my children to learn.

I will never understand why any one would want to hang out with people who dont want you around. Start your own groups. Ask Black Folks in the Congressional Black Caucus.
Joe, why not ask African-Americans who weren’t allowed to go to the better-funded schools Southern whites set up for themselves, or to be served at the same lunch counters as whites, or to sit where they wanted to on any bus? What’s wrong with the Boy Scouts of America, that they’re teaching young boys to value inequality and discrimination?
