Walter Jones Holds Double Standard On Health Care Reform
U.S. Representative Walter Jones says that he opposes health care reform because he doesn’t want extra government spending on health care at a time when the national debt is already too high. “Any proposal for health care reform must also be considered in the context of America’s rapidly deteriorating fiscal position. The reality is that America’s national debt is almost $12 trillion, and the federal government is adding $2 trillion to that total this year alone.”, he says.
If Congressman Jones truly opposes increases in government health care spending, why did he slip an earmark for extra government spending on health care into appropriations bill H.R. 3293? The earmark would expand government spending on health care, adding to the national debt.
It seems that Representative Jones actually does support expanded government spending on health care – on a piecemeal basis. What he opposes is reform of the health care system to make it more efficient and affordable for Americans.
That’s a downright wasteful approach. Increasing spending without reform, as Walter Jones is advocating, is an irresponsible use of public money.
