UPDATE: Senate Judiciary Committee Will Consider JUSTICE Act Provisions Tomorrow
I’ve just gotten off the phone with a staffer at the majority office of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and I’ve been told that in tomorrow morning’s markup meeting, the Senate Judiciary Committee will indeed consider the provisions of Senator Russell Feingold‘s JUSTICE Act (S. 1686) when it works to finalize a bill regarding warrantless surveillance programs under the FISA Amendments Act and Patriot Act.
See here for a summary of the current state of warrantless surveillance under those two laws and the reforms that the JUSTICE Act would make. If you find that you support the reforms proposed by the JUSTICE Act, consider making a call to one of these Senators, Democrats on the Judiciary Committee whose position regarding the JUSTICE reforms remains unknown:
Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland. DC Office Phone: 202-224-4524
Senator Dianne Feinstein of California. DC Office Phone: 202-224-3841
Senator Al Franken of Minnesota. DC Office Phone: 202-224-5641
Senator Ted Kaufman of Delaware. DC Office Phone: 202-224-5042
Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. DC Office Phone: 202-224-3244

Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania. DC Office Phone: 202-224-4254
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island. DC Office Phone: 202-224-2921
If you feel uncomfortable calling a Senator for a state in which you don’t live, consider making a direct call to the office of the Senator Judiciary Committee majority at (202) 224-7703. Let the staff know that you support incorporation of Senator Feingold’s JUSTICE Act reforms, and that you will be paying close attention to the decisions made tomorrow.
As Big Brother watches us, it is incumbent upon us to be watching Big Brother.
