Tasini Runs In Support Of Marriage Equality
Unlike other candidates running for the Democratic nomination for the junior U.S. Senate seat in New York, Jonathan Tasini makes no bones about running a fully progressive campaign backed up by a long record of progressive action. Tasini’s genuine progressive character comes across strongly through his stand on the issue of marriage equality.
Tasini is in favor of full and equal marriage rights for same-sex couples, and he supports action to ensure those rights are recognized nationwide in the near future, not at some later date. Tasini is the only candidate for New York’s junior Senate seat to have signed the Dallas Principles for speedy recognition of LGBT rights. Tasini’s campaign explains his reason for endorsing the principles by writing,
“Jonathan has always been in favor of equal civil rights for all Americans without exception. Lesbian and gay couples are without the 700+ rights and responsibilities that New York confers on married couples as soon as they say, “I do.” Lesbian and gay couples should have the freedom to marry. Only civil marriage can provide such vital protections and security to lesbian and gay families as granting the right to visit a hospitalized partner, custody and visitation rights for families, social security benefits to a surviving partner, immigration rights for international same-sex couples, and hundreds of other legal protections and responsibilities. It’s only fair.”
