The Most Dismal Earmark Ever
The award of the Most Dismal Earmark Ever goes to one submitted last week by U.S. Representative Randy Forbes, who requested $200,000 of federal money for an interpretive center to be built within a visitor center that already exists.
What’s the interpretive center for? It’s for the Dismal Swamp. The earmark is to design and construct a Dismal Swamp Interpretive Center.
If the Dismal Swamp is really so dismal, how come it needs interpretation?
Seriously, the Republicans in Congress are always complaining about how Democrats engage in too much wasteful government spending. Yet, here is Republican Representative Forbes asking for $200,000 to build a display in a visitor center.
It’s a worthwhile project – for the local government to engage in. In this economy, with the federal government in as much debt as it is, there must be more responsible ways for a member of Congress to allocate $200,000.
