Feingold Introduces Legislation to ReEnfranchise Ex-Convict Americans

Posted on July 30 2009 by Congressional Aid

Senator Russell Feingold of Wisconsin will earn no points with the Law And Order segment of American society, the segment that pushes for ever-more harsh, broad and long-term punishment against convicted criminals. These are the people who banish people convicted of sex offenses to live under bridges after they have been released from prison. These [...]

Blue Dog Democrats Wreck Health Care Reform

Posted on July 29 2009 by Congress Watcher

In 2008, there was a great deal of hope for meaningful health care reform. In 2009, those hopes are evaporating, as it looks like the “reform” legislation is little more than a shell game that won’t provide Americans with the coverage that they need. This time around, the Democrats don’t have the Republicans to blame. It’s the Blue Dog Democrats who have wrecked the reform process.

Matt Reichel For Congress, Because You’re All Losers

Posted on July 28 2009 by Congress Watcher

A good place to start a campaign is to explain what you can do to improve voters’ lives, rather than telling them what a bunch of losers they all are.

Peter Olson Seeks To Keep Worker Pay Low

Posted on July 27 2009 by Congress Watcher

Business interests have had their interests catered to by the federal government for a long time now. This pro-business agenda has not brought about a great increase in employment. It’s brought us an increasing income gap between workers and business executives.

Impact of John Conyers Speech on Investigating Constitutional Crimes

Posted on July 26 2009 by Congressional Aid

Rep. John Conyers‘ remarks on July 24, 2009 to the National Press Club concerning investigations of unconstitutional behavior by members of the Bush administration (my transcription of public NPC video): Eric Holder must appoint a special counsel to review the Bush administration abuses of power and misconduct. A criminal probe: he’s got to do that. [...]

Fishy Red Snapper Study Delays Responsible Action

Posted on July 25 2009 by Congress Watcher

Why the call for a new study on red snapper populations, and why from the Department of Commerce, instead of NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which is actually qualified and prepared to carry out fish population studies? The answer has more to do with commerce than it has to do with science.

Ten Democrats Vote Against High Speed Rail and Reasonable Housing

Posted on July 24 2009 by Congress Watcher

The public housing program funded in H.R. 3288 also ought to please conservatives, given that the form of housing it supports is a change from old public housing programs, which created high crime areas by concentrating a combination of desperate and vulnerable people through tracts of purely low-income housing. The new program demolishes the old projects and replaces them with mixed-income housing.

Posted on July 23 2009 by Congressional Aid

Kirsten Gillibrand and Carolyn Maloney, two members of the U.S. Congress from New York, are both planning to run for New York’s Senate seat in 2010. Maloney is a long-term congressional veteran with a lot of legislation already under her belt; she was a principal architect of credit card protection earlier this year for example. [...]
