Republicans Seek to Diminish New Equality in the States

Posted on April 8 2009 by Congress Watcher

The Constitution is very clear about how the law must be administered – with equality for all Americans. Yet, most states have had discriminatory marriage laws, allowing only heterosexual couples to become married. This inequality is not just unjust. It’s also dangerous to the integrity of our society. Large numbers of same sex couples have homes and children together. They want to get married, not just out of love, but out of a sense of responsibility to their children and to their neighbors.

congressman dan lungrenRecently, state governments to remedy this inequality. In Iowa, Connecticut, Vermont and Massachusetts, same sex marriage is now legal. Unfortunately, some Republican members of Congress are seeking to use the power of the federal government to undo this expansion in family values.

H. J. Res. 37, introduced by California’s Dan Lungren, would begin the process of the passage of an amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America that would diminish the meaning of marriage to just a union between one man and one woman. The amendment would also nullify civil union laws, or any other state of union “having the legal incidents of marriage”.

The legislation has 34 cosponsors so far.

[...] the subject suggests that he might want to watch his step. The Republican Congressman supports an amendment to the Constitution that would forbid courts from protecting the constitutional rights of same sex couples. [...]

Steve, I am writing to you in regard to the Health Plan that Pres. Obama is trying to cram down the American people’s throat, Does he think that all American’s are so dumb that we don’t know what he is up to. He wants us to pay for all of these people that has never worked and been on Well Fair for all of their lives and all of the illegial immgrants that is coming into this country, we cannot possibly give them health care with our expenses. If this is voted in their will be a few in Congress that will lose their seats next year. Please do everything possible to make this not happen. I have been a Gov. employee at Wright-Patterson for 25 years and we have worked for what we have. Pres Obama is trying to rule everything we do, Education, Auto Industry, Health Care, but he thinks he can talk the American people into anything, how dumb does he think everyone is, But we do have people that voted last year that never voted in there life. I have been a registered Republician all of my life and my ancesters before me were Reublicians.
