Mean Marsha Blackburn

Posted on February 19 2009 by Congress Watcher

Just when people in America have been knocked down, Representative Marsha Blackburn wants to kick sand in their eye.

marsha blackburnMarsha Blackburn is the principal sponsor of H.R. 381, a bill that would force cuts to programs that help people who are going through temporary economic hardship. The bill would cut money for health care for children, and support for hospitals that we all depend upon. Blackburn’s legislation would cut money to the WIC program – which provides nutritional support to pregnant women and their young children. H.R. 381 would cut money for Head Start education for at-risk young kids, too.

It’s not only heartless to cut these programs, as Representative Blackburn proposes. It’s just plain stupid. These programs save the government money, because a baby that isn’t fed adequately, doesn’t get medical care, and doesn’t receive proper education is a drag on the national economy for the rest of its life.

Marsha Blackburn and the 21 cosponsors of her legislation can’t see that, and so they’re pushing to cut off the very kinds of funds that are most needed to support local communities, and help people who suffering because of the global economic crisis. Instead of extending a helping hand, they’re kicking young families to the curb.

Let’s not forget that her house was only days away from a foreclosure, and amazingly, the ‘bank error’ disappeared. Is this a self-serving position or what?
