Why Shouldn’t Residents of US Territories Vote For President?
U.S. Representative Donna Christensen from the U.S. Virgin Islands has introduced a resolution to the House of Representatives – a resolution that’s also supported by Representative Eni Faleomavaega of American Samoa and Madeleine Bordallo of Guam. The resolution proposes an amendment to the Constitution that would guarantee the ability of residents of US territories to vote in presidential elections.
That brings an obvious question to mind: Why shouldn’t residents of territories claimed by the United States have the ability to participate in presidential elections? What’s the threat from American Samoa, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands?
