When I spoke with Democratic congressional candidate Barry Welsh a couple of weeks ago, I asked him about the domestic policy agenda he would support as a member of the House of Representatives. Here’s what he told me in response:
“One thing I would like to see us move towards would be a public works project act for strengthening our infrastructure. One of the things that we’re doing, one of the things that our campaign is launching, is called the Three E Revolution, the Three Es being the economy, the environment, and energy. All three of those are entwined, and all three of those interrelate. We need to have some revolutionary thinking on all three of those fronts.
One of those fronts will be our infrastructure. Year after year, we see what happens when we ignore safety nets put into place, such as levees and dikes and dams along rivers, and bridges crossing over rivers, as we saw up in Minnesota. We’ve got potholes the size of small craters in the roads in our own state and across our own district and our own towns.
We’ve got a lot of work to do on America, and that’s one of the things I would like to do - to put some of these skilled laborers back to work, with the potential infrastructure works project.”
Barry Welsh is challenging Republican Mike Pence in Indiana’s 6th congressional district.
