Party or Progressivism? Determinants of Bill Activity in the U.S. Senate

Posted on April 30 2008 by Congressional Aid

Irregular Times reports today on the sponsorship (offering a bill for consideration) and cosponsorship (promoting a bill by signing one’s name) activity by members of the United States Senate in the years 2007-2008, offering figures for 98 Senators that range from a low of 22 bill (co)sponsorships to a high of 469 bill (co)sponsorships. See [...]

The KillJoy Coalition In Congress Does Not Support Our Troops

Posted on April 29 2008 by Congress Watcher

It’s been the mantra of the Republican Party for years now: Support Our Troops! Support Our Troops! Support Our Troops! So, why is it that 17 Republican members of Congress are coming together to support a law that forbids the troops from getting the things they want for support while fighting over in Iraq? They’ve [...]

Michelle Bachmann Uses Taxes To Fight Taxes?

Posted on April 28 2008 by Congress Watcher

If Michelle Bachmann is so strongly against taxes, how come she is using taxes to pay for her complaints about how bad taxes are? It seems that Michelle Bachmann likes taxes a lot – just so long as she’ll get to use them for her own personal benefit, to help her get re-elected.

Michelle Bachmann Leads A Group Of Dim Bulbs In Congress

Posted on April 27 2008 by Congress Watcher

This collection of backwards-thinking members of Congress, numbering 25 including Michelle Bachmann herself, have all signed on as sponsors of the Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act. I hereby name them the Dim Bulb Caucus, both on account of their stubborn dedication to wasteful technology and for their dazzling dim-wittedness in ignoring the economic and environmental threats that arise from their efforts to thwart energy efficiency.

John McCain Gas Tax Plan Would Funnel Money To Big Oil Corporations

Posted on April 15 2008 by Congress Watcher

A summary of the results of John McCain’s oil scheme:
- You don’t actually pay less for a gallon of gasoline
- The federal budget deficit increases by 10 billion dollars
- Oil companies take the money
- There’s even less gasoline available than before

Congress Must Appoint Special Prosecutor On White House Torture

Posted on April 14 2008 by Congress Watcher

A special prosecutor would investigate top White House officials, including President Bush, to determine the facts about their role in the organization and implementation of torture. The prosecutor would have the power to demand information and issue subpoenas for White House officials, including the President, to testify under oath. If the White House obstructed the investigation, that in itself would be grounds for impeachment and charges of contempt of Congress.

Susan Collins is Number One For Blood Money in the Senate

Posted on April 3 2008 by Congress Watcher

Susan Collins gets more of this money from war profiteers than anybody else running for election to the Senate in 2008. Senator Collins doesn’t just have blood on her hands. She has blood in her bank account too.

Ron Paul Is A Top Fossil Fool In the U.S. House

Posted on April 2 2008 by Congress Watcher

Why would big oil corporations want to help Ron Paul go back to Congress? That answer is an easy one. Ron Paul is a strong opponent of government regulations to restrict the air pollution that comes from burning petroleum products. Ron Paul doesn’t even believe in global warming, and thinks that there isn’t a single thing in his life that he does that damages the environment. In fact, Ron Paul wants to help big oil corporations completely evade government efforts at environmental protection, allowing them to do whatever they want, with no laws to stop them, and the vehicles that use their fossil fuel products, from fouling the environmen

John Cornyn Is A Fossil Fool

Posted on April 1 2008 by Congress Watcher

In the 2008 election cycle so far, the campaign to re-elect John Cornyn has received more money from polluting big oil and gas corporations than any other Senate campaign. Senator Cornyn has received $349,780 so far, and there’s a lot of time for even more big checks from the grubby hands of oil company executives.
