Pat McHenry The Earmark King

Posted on December 22 2007 by Congress Watcher

Congressman Pat McHenry is a great example of what Republicans mean when they say that they’re against congressional earmarks. What they mean is that they’re against earmarks, except for the 3.25 million dollars that they want.

In Wake of FISA Sellout, Feinstein Wants to Legislate Cover Up

Posted on December 19 2007 by Congressional Aid

On Monday, Senator Dianne Feinstein of California voted to advance the FISA Amendments Act of 2007, which would cement into place a system of spying on Americans without a warrant while prohibiting evaluation of that system of warrantless spying by the U.S. courts. After immediate passage of the Act was delayed, Senator Feinstein has now [...]

The Five Thousand Pound Poison Test of The 2008 Presidential Election

Posted on December 18 2007 by Congress Watcher

On May 18, 2006, they voted against an amendment by Congressman Frank Pallone that would have reversed the Bush White House’s decision to allow up to five thousand pounds of pollution to be released into the environment without being reported. Democrat Dennis Kucinich voted against them.

Dodd and Kucinich Support Clean Water Restoration

Posted on December 17 2007 by Congress Watcher

The Clean Water Restoration Act is designed to correct for the Supreme Court’s actions, amending the Clean Water Act to ensure that all America’s natural sources of water are protected, as the Clean Water Act intended to protect them. Not one Republican presidential candidate has come out in support of the Clean Water Restoration Act of 2007. Also, Democratic Senators Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Joseph Biden have not cosponsored the bill. For the 2008 presidential election, Chris Dodd and Dennis Kucinich stand head and shoulders above the rest of the field when it comes to protecting America’s waters.

Red State Versus Blue State Green Records In Congress

Posted on December 16 2007 by Congress Watcher

There was a gap in the LCV legislative score of 45 percent in the House, and 51.5 percent in the Senate. No difference between red states and blue states? That’s not what the record in Congress shows. Blue states are progressive states, and they chose the Democratic candidate in 2008.

No Senate Presidential Candidates Cosponsor Endangered Species Recovery Act

Posted on December 15 2007 by Congress Watcher

Why haven’t any of the presidential candidates from the United States Senate co-sponsored the Endangered Species Recovery Act of 2007? The number of the bill in the Senate is S.700. Give a call to the presidential campaigns of the following candidates and ask them what they’ve got against investing in the protection of endangered species in the USA.

Anti-Progressives in Senate Vote Against Blue Collar Workers

Posted on December 14 2007 by Congress Watcher

Renewable energy standards originally included in the energy bill would have created high-paying jobs in manufacturing, construction, and other blue collar economic sectors. Sadly, the anti-progressive politicians in the Senate who voted in favor of weakening the energy bill by excluding renewable energy standards seem more interested in protecting the power of executives in energy corporations than they are in helping American workers find worthwhile employment.

3 Democratic Senators Betray American Economy and Environment on Fuel Efficiency

Posted on December 7 2007 by Congress Watcher

The Creating Long-Term Energy Alternatives for the Nation Act was an extremely important piece of economic and environmental legislation that would have saved consumers tens of billions of dollars every year and helped clean the air and combat global warming by requiring an average of 35 miles per gallon for automobiles driven on American roads. It would have been the first time since the 1970s that fuel efficiency standards had been updated. The legislation would also have strengthened markets in clean, alternative electrical energy by requiring 15 percent of American power to come from renewable sources.

Evan Bayh, Robert Byrd and Mary Landrieu helped to kill the bill. That’s not what Democrats elect their politicians to do. So, now it’s up to Democratic voters in Indiana, West Virginia and Louisiana to remember this betrayal, and vote accordingly when their senators are next up for re-election.

Dennis Kucinich CoSponsors Fuel Efficiency

Posted on December 7 2007 by Congress Watcher

Dennis Kucinich not only voted for the Creating Long-Term Energy Alternatives for the Nation Act – H.R. 6 – he cosponsored the legislation, helping it to get to the floor of the House of Representatives where it could receive an up or down vote by the full body of the House.
