The FISA Amendments Act of 2007 is the follow-up, permanent legislation proposed to replace the temporary Protect America Act. The Protect America Act became law this summer less than a week after it was introduced, which was barely enough time for the legislation to be posted on the Library of Congress’ website, Thomas, and certainly not enough time for American citizens to read, digest and discuss the beast. That’s especially shameful because the Protect America Act was so sweeping in its violation of the Constitution, particularly the 4th Amendment guarantees against searches without warrants.

This isn’t a bill that is set to expire in 6 months, folks. It’s a bill that will remain in effect until 2013.
