What happened to Jon Tester?

What is wrong with Jon Tester?

Last year, we were all told that Montana Democrat Jon Tester was a strong liberal who would work in the United States Senate to end the war in Iraq.

What happened to that Jon Tester? Why did he change to a pro-war Democrat when he entered the United States Senate?

Yesterday, Jon Tester voted in favor of prolonging the war in Iraq. Senator Tester voted against Russ Feingold’s legislation to end the Iraq War. (S.Amdt. 1098 to S.Amdt. 1097 to to H.R. 1495)

We were bamboozled. We were tricked. We were lied to.

Jon Tester turns out to be just another Democratic politician with no backbone.

What a disappointment.

uh…

I’m not sure if this a Montanan writing this post…? But Montana has the highest percentage of its citizenry in arms right now. That means a lot of Montana families live on military bases, have soldiers oversees, rely on the benefits and privileges that come with military service.

Yanking the funding for Iraq is a great idea…assuming that such a vote would actually spur the president to withdraw our troops. In a more likely scenario, however, Bush in such case would be more likely to raid other parts of the DoD budget to keep fighting. That means cuts in training programs, “nonessential” services like health care, hospitals, schools, etc.

I know Jon, and I know he’s committed to getting us out of Iraq. But I also know he’s very committed to Montana soldiers and their families. It ain’t politics talking, either.

Tester and the majority of Congress already voted for troop withdrawal. Let’s save our energy peppering the Republicans who privately grumble about the war, then turn around and support the President’s veto…
