Republican Congressman James Walsh nearly lost his seat in the United States House of Representatives in 2006. It’s a good thing, too. During the 109th Congress, Representative Walsh earned only a 13 percent progressive rating. Syracuse, New York can do better than that.
Will Walsh get the lesson? It seems not. At a recent Town Hall meeting, Walsh essentially told Paloma Capanna, who ran for the 2006 Democratic nomination for Congress in the 25th district, to sit down and shut up.
Paloma Capanna has responded with a strong editorial in which she states, “Unfortunately, your attitude at your town meeting in Lyons was precisely what caused me to run against you in the first place: You are someone who does not directly answer questions and, worse, you are someone who does not want the question asked.”
Does this public stand mark the beginning of another campaign for Congress by Capanna, or just a coordinated effort by the Democrats of New York State’s 25th district to finish the job of 2006? Either one would be welcome.
