Ned Lamont Campaign Reaches Out Into MySpace
In his campaign to challenge right wing incumbent Senator Joseph Lieberman, Democrat Ned Lamont is leaving no opportunity left unexplored. That’s why Ned Lamont’s campaign for Senate is moving into MySpace.
Tim Tagaris, who works on the online aspects of Lamont’s campaign, recently wrote to progressive Democrats on MySpace, asking for help in building connections the candidate through the social networking site. The idea is to spread the word about Lamont’s Friends, Family and Neighbors volunteering program. The program gets people to send messages to people they know in Connecticut, urging them to turn out to vote for Ned Lamont.
Part of Tagaris’s message was an appeal for online progressives to use the MySpace networking outreach effort to demonstrate to older, skeptical political operatives that the Internet can be an important tool for insurgent congressional campaigns. Is Tagaris right? Will the maneuver pay off? The Connecticut primary is on August 8, less than a month away. It won’t be too long before we find out.
