We Should Support Joe Lieberman Because He Is One Of Us! Maybe. Kind of. Sort of. No, Actually Not. Call the Bully’s Bluff.

Posted on June 12 2006 by Congressional Aid

For years, I’ve heard the lectures from people like Christopher Dodd who tell members of the Democratic Party rank and file that they must support the conservative Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman because he’s a Democrat, and Democrats need to stick together in order to prevail. What, then, should I make of the reiteration by Joe Lieberman that if the Democratic rank and file doesn’t choose him, he’ll leave the Democratic Party to make a run as an independent, in so doing undercutting the candidate the rank and file has chosen? It looks to me as though Joe Lieberman has placed his personal arrogance over the will of the people. And that’s not good in any politician.

I say we spank Joe Lieberman for his arrogance come the primaries. Vote for Lieberman, and electoral extortion wins. I say we vote for Ned Lamont and make Joe decide whether he really wants to destroy the Democrats just because they didn’t pick him. Call the bully on his bluff.
