What’s the difference between National Security and Homeland Security?

Senator Hillary Clinton, running for re-election this year, has made a list of the issues that matter to her campaign. On that list, there are two separate items, number 2 and number 3 on the list:

  • National Security
  • Homeland Security

Here’s what I want to know: Is there a difference between national security and homeland security?

Is there a difference between the American nation and the American homeland?

Here’s what I can tell: National security means going out and fighting wars. Homeland security means keeping bad enemies from attacking us within America’s borders.

This sounds frighteningly like the kind of language used by empires. Rationally, it makes no sense.

    Enough with this homeland nonsense.

Let’s keep America secure by ending our attempt to create imperial centers of American power around the world.
