What Do They Stand For in Virginia?

In Virginia, there are two Democrats running for the opportunity to take on Senator George Allen in the general election this year. That’s great, as George Allen is one of the more right wing members of the United States Senate.

But what do the Democratic candidates stand for? That’s difficult to tell. Here’s what one of the candidates, Harris Miller has to say on the “agenda” page of his web site:

“We have to make major changes in Washington and clean up the current mess in order to continue to make that American dream available to our children and grandchildren. I do not mean just the ethical mess that gives us daily headlines of major political figures coming under investigation or being indicted. But also the political mess that turns every issue affecting the future of education, jobs, our economy, health care, our national and homeland security into a partisan fight, that prevents effective problem solving for Virginians.”

What does this mean? Is the platform of Harris Miller to work with the Republicans on education, jobs, fiscal policy, health care, and the nonsense that Homeland Security has become? Yick. That doesn’t make Miller sound like the kind of Democrat we need in the Senate, but that’s all he has to say on the issues.

Miller’s Democratic rival, James Webb (or Jim, as he likes to be called now that he’s running for public office) doesn’t even have an issues page. Oh, but on Webb’s campaign blog, there is the following message: “Ever want to rub elbows with the most politically connected in Virginia? For a trip to Wakefield, VA and the $20 admission fee you can join Jim and other politically minded folks at the annual Shad Planking.”

I don’t think I’m asking too much, that candidates for the United States Senate actually stand for something. So far, these Virginia Democrats come off looking nothing more than skanky.
