It’s kind of sad, the way that money is power in our electoral system, but the politicians like it that way, and the population isn’t smart or active enough to push for purely public financing of campaigns so there we are.
If you want to see how much power money has in the campaigns for Congress, just go on out and listen to what’s going on with congressional campaigns. You’ll hear… not much.
That’s because the campaigns are just sitting on their behinds, waiting for the official reports of the fundraising figures for the first quarter to come out. See, it’s once the campaigns can say how much money they’ve raised that they can declare the worth of their candidates… not when the candidates speak on the issues.
Issues? That’s just window dressing.
